Heparin

Combination of physical and pharmaceutical measures

Heparin and thrombosis prophylaxis

Are medical thrombosis prophylaxis stockings necessary at all if the patient is being treated with heparin?

A combination of physical and pharmaceutical measures is almost always recommended. Apart from a few exceptions, providing patients with thrombosis prophylaxis stockings and prescribing an anticoagulant (e.g. heparin) is the most reliable way of reducing the incidence of venous thrombosis.
