Back braces are used for a variety of different symptoms. Back braces that hold the spine erect, for example, are an important element in guideline-compliant treatment of osteoporosis. Stabilising back braces are primarily also used for osteoarthritis of the facet joints, chronic back pain, sciatica or after lumbago.

Mode of action of medi back braces

Various stabilising orthoses are worn as adjuncts to physiotherapy, heat treatment, massage or manual therapy. Braces from medi are also used for low back pain or muscular tension. They straighten and stabilise the lumbar spine. For example, Lumbamed facet can also be prescribed for osteoarthritis of the facet joints, a chronic and degenerative form of backache.

Braces to hold the spine erect for osteoporosis

Osteoporosis (loss of bone mass) is a metabolic disease. It is the most common bone disease among elderly people. Due to the increasing breakdown of bone substance, osteoporosis may lead to bone fractures in the wrist, thigh, pelvis or upper arm. Also vertebral fractures, so-called sintering, or fractures along the longitudinal axis of the bone, known as compression fractures, are very common painful secondary manifestations of osteoporosis.

Back braces with elastic stretch materials remind patients to adopt the correct posture.

The Spinomed back braces are as simple to put on as a rucksack – they are fastened over the abdomen with a Velcro fastener. The integrated strap system and splints exert tension forces on the back and remind the wearer to adopt the correct upright posture.

Another version of the Spinomed orthosis is the corselette for ladies and men. In this case, an individually adjustable aluminium rib is slid into an integrated pocket on the back, which, together with the elastic stretch materials, acts to hold the spine erect.
